Vinification

The selected ripe grapes are harvested manually in mid-September and placed in small containers for transport to the cellar. The grapes, one fifth of which are vinified in whole bunches - is passed by gravity into stainless steel vats for fermentation (25 days). Once the malolactic fermentation has taken place, the wine is aged for 20 months in barrique and then further refined in the bottle for 18 months.

Producer

CANTINA GIRLAN was founded in 1923, by 23 winemakers, in the town of Girlan / Cornaiano in Alto Adige in a historic 16th century farm. Since 1923, CANTINA GIRLAN has been based in this typical Oltradige farm. Against the background of these walls where tradition can still be breathed in every corner and in the intertwining of corridors and ravines of the cellar the secrets of cutting-edge wine technology are hidden. In 2010 a process of modernization of the cellar was started, intended to bring it up to date with today's technical needs. CANTINA GIRLAN currently has 200 winemakers, located in a vineyard area of 220 hectares, in the best production areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. The vineyards extend at an altitude between 250 and 550 meters above sea level, on different soils in their composition which constitute an ideal environment for the cultivation of numerous indigenous and international varieties. Alongside the land, a very important factor is the human one: that of the winemaker and our winemaker, Gerhard Kofler, who maintains a close relationship with the contributing members. It is from this fruitful exchange of experiences that the foundations for quality ambitions are born.
